Fylgjur II (2016)

  • Instrumentation: piano

Fylgjur II consists of 3 short movements for piano, partially based on an older piece, Fylgjur, written in 2013.

The music is loosely inspired by the Icelandic word fylgja (plural: fylgjur), which can have several meanings. In Icelandic mythology it refers to a supernatural being that accompanies a person in connection to their fate or fortune, not unlike the Irish fetch or the German doppelgänger. But more literally it simply means “someone or something that follows”.
