Tíminn er eins og vatnið (Time is like water) was premiered by Sinfóníuhljómsveit unga fólksins (Ungfónía) in the summer of 2023, although most of the ideas and sketches for the piece date back to 2014.
The title refers to the opening lines of Steinn Steinarr's poem Tíminn og vatnið (Time and water). Perhaps these two phenomena, i.e. time and water, might not seem to have much in common. Time takes its steady course while water flows on erratically, seemingly in a timeless manner. But on a closer inspection we find that even water has its own internal pulse, just like time. Likewise, time becomes relative in our minds and may start to appear fluid and erratic, like water.
